CHK to have state of art pediatric Emergency unit
Civil Hospital Karachi now has renovated and refurnished state of art Pediatric Emergency. This project is being financed by the Government of Sindh, Adamjee Foundation and Child Life Foundation against a sanctioned sum of Rs.2.5 billion. The unit has state of art intensive care facilities. Pediatric emergency is one of the most visited facilities catering to the needs of 400 to 600 children at its out-patient department (OPD) and on an average 20 admissions daily.
 
 
 
 
Patients’ Welfare Association along with health department of Sindh holds inauguration ceremony of Thalassemia Day Care Center
Thallassemia Day Care Center established by Health Department at Civil Hospital Karachi. Mr. S.M Muneer Chairman Din Group, former Secretary Health Syed Hashim Raza Zaidi, Medical Superintendent Civil Hospital Karachi Professor Saeed Qureshi and volunteers of Patients’ Welfare Association (PWA) were also present on the occasion. The thallessmia centers were being established at seven major hospitals in the province with a cost of Rs. 174.116 million, in order to stem the spread of the disease. The centre had been established at a cost of Rs4.2 million and it would be provided with state of the art equipment worth Rs22 million.  The single tube osmotic fragility test (SOFT) would be started from next year to ascertain thalasseamia-inflicted patients. Thallassemia screaning clinic would also be established.
 
 
 
Breast Cancer Clinic at Surgical I
Breast clinic setup at Surgical Unit I by Dr. Naheed Sultan. This Clinic is providing one window service to the patients of Breast cancer. From screening to diagnostic & therapeutic operation it will be provided through one window.
Poor Patients Aid Society would support this clinic for Diagnostics and in form of Medication.
The service timings are 5 days of Week from Monday to Friday at 9.00AM to 12.00Noon. The focal person is Dr. Farah Iddrees.
 
 
 

Dowites Central Medical ICU started working
Sind Health Minister Dr. Sagheer Ahmed inaugurated the first-ever 16-bed Intensive Care Unit at the Civil Hospital Karachi. The ICU, built at a cost of Rs50 million to deal with highly sensitive and complicated cases, comprises 12 ventilators and four beds for high dependence unit. It has been established with the support of Dowites 82. The graduates have contributed Rs10 million for the facility. The Sindh government has provided Rs40 million for procurement of gadgets for the much-wanted facility in one of the largest tertiary care hospitals in the country. Dr. Sagheer Ahmed appealed to the Dow graduates to maintain the spirit and continue support to their alma mater. Medical Superintendent CHK Prof. Muhammad Saeed Qureshi said that the 16-bed medical ICU had two separate beds for communicable diseases. “All beds have central oxygen and suction equipment along with monitors to look after patients,” he said. Prof Quraishy said soft opening of the unit was held last July and around 300 patients had been successfully treated since then. Prof. Junaid Ashraf Principal Dow Medical College & focal person of Dowites 82 presented the project report & reaffirmed the commitment of Dowite 82, to further support the project.

Renovated and repair of OPD block
Repair and renovation work of OPD block for Hepatitis, Diabetes, and Medical OPD has been completed after three months in Civil Hospital Karachi. Construction and repair work was completed in collaboration with Merck pharmaceutical company. Sindh Health Minister Dr. Sagheer Ahmed has inaugurated the OPD block on January 1st, 2011. Medical Superintendent Civil Hospital Karachi, Professor Saeed Qureshi said that he was thankful to the pharmaceutical company for their valuable cooperation. He said reconstruction and renovation of emergency, children, cardiology and other wards was also in the process, which would be completed in a few months.




Radiology department is now digitalized PPAS To Help in the DRD project
This project is a gift from Dow alumni batch of 85, who have installed 2 Digital radiology systems which is digital x-ray system and replaced an old machine with a 500 M.A x-ray machine costing $100000. PPAS has committed to provide Rs. 3.0 million to this project. The quality of x-rays are excellent, and diseases missed previously are diagnosed easily, also x-rays can be stored in the system for 5 years and the expenditure of films is reduced as miniature x-ray prints are given. This was the phase 1, phase 2 with the same equipment has been ordered and will be operational in about 1-2 months. “We eventually plan to digitalize the entire department” said Prof. M. Dengue Cell was established at Civil Hospital Karachi
Dengue Infection Control Cell was established at CHK to ensure a meaningful surveillance of the mosquito borne diseases and a timely action to overcome the situation and help the patients in need. CHK dengue surveillance cell reported about 74 new admissions of patients suspected to have been suffering from dengue fever to nine different hospitals in the city, taking this year’s total number of hospital admissions of dengue patients to 3,200.So far, 1,434 of the admitted patients have tested positive for dengue in Sindh. In all, 14 hospitals have used 176 mega platelet units.
The Health Minister was of the opinion that patients seeking mega platelet should be provided with the facility after fulfilling the prescribed procedures since mega platelet bags had been provided to some blood banks and government hospitals in the city on a priority basis. New Pediatrics Emergency Department is under construction

This is 2 story building will be equipped with highly advanced machinery and will serve innocent patients. It will be only child dedicated department. It will treat both life-threatening illnesses and other less serious conditions. We hope that quality of call would tremendously improve.









PPAS provided wheel chairs to Non Affording Paralyzed Patients
As always Poor Patients Aid Soceity providing relief to poor patients through medines, investigations and other life saving services. PPAS distributed 20 wheel chairs to deserve non affording paralyzed person with colaboration of Rotary Club.








PPAS placed a stall at Rotary District Conference
Poor Patients Aid Society has placed a stall in Rotary District Conference (Rotary Club of Karachi) at 19 & 20th March, 2011 between 9.00AM to 7.30PM at House of Friendship of Rotary district 3271. The purpose of this stall is to spread awareness about PPAS activities and the aim to explain the development of patient’s health at Civil Hospital Karachi. We convey that together with corporate and our efforts can make a good difference for poor patient’s health.
